Every Room has a shiny sink- Dresser

A Sitting Area

Here was a glider rocker that not
being used but looked good against
the wall. My baby now is held and
rocked by moonlight for the
middle of the night feedings and held and
rocked by sunlight for the morning
feeding.

Every Room has a shiny sink- Desk Area

This is where the new me sits.
The new me faces the window to nature instead of the time consuming television set.
The new me does not have unpaid bills to remind me how broke I am.
The new me is now surrounded by beauty to remind me of who I am.

Olympic CLoset Challenge

I'm happy to say, my closet only has what fits and what I wear.

My closet is no longer shouting out to me, look I know you had
two babies but when are your hips going to go back to size?
My clothing was making me feel like I there was something wrong with the way my body is.

I now have signature outfits that I can rotate for work or going to dinner with a friend. Everything from hair accessories to the shoes on my feet.

I no longer have the stress of getting ready for work because I know I have five good outfits that are clean and fit.

I drive a clean car

Clean car mission,

I never knew myself as one who would drive a clean car. In the past, my friends and family would make fun of my messy car and make little jokes on how things fall out when you open the door. I always used the excuse that it's too cold and I'm too busy to clean out my car. We'll the
excuse has been crushed. On my way home from work, I went thru the car wash before picking the kids up from daycare. It took a total of five minutes. Another day, I took five minutes to run out to my car with a garbage bag and a laundry basket and filled it up. The next day I was driving home from work I decided to take give minutes to vacuum. This was so easy I'm going to do it again next week. By Friday my car will be cleaned again.

FlyLady's Winter Olympic Event #9

Time to clean out the car! I know we are supposed to do this every week, and I do to some extent. I usually get all the trash from the middle console or anything that has ended up on the floor (in the front) but that's about it. Today I decided (with a little help from dh) that I would do a more thorough job of it. I took everything out of the trunk that didn't need to be there. Some was trash, some was recycle, and some was just old work stuff that I didn't use anymore (my "office" is in my trunk). My dh worked more on the front interior of the car, and I helped once I finished with the trunk. Some items found: Home made washing detergent (my SIL gave us LAST Christmas, I think), lots of game pieces (from work), used wrapping paper and bows, aluminum foil, and several plastic grocery bags, just to name a few. After we got all the "junk" out, yes there was a LOT of it, I decided I might as well get it vacuumed out. I'd been wanting to do that for a long time (months at least), so I decided, no time like the present! :) It took $2 worth of quarters but it was so worth it. Every time I get in my car now it makes me smile!

Meal Planning Can Be Easy

One of our events this week was to take out our calendars and plan a week's worth of meals. Here are the menus that I used to use. I took things that my family already ate on a regular basis. I made up 4 menus, along with the shopping list to go with those meals. Then I rotated those weeks, so we would repeat once every four weeks.

Here are my sample menus:

Menu 1
Jambalaya, Rolls
Tacos, Refried Beans, Spanish Rice
Lemon Chicken, Rice, Veggies
Meatloaf, Baked Potatoes, Salad
Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans
Gnocchi, Garlic Bread, Salad

Menu 2
Chili Boats
Fried Burritos, Spanish Rice
BBQ Baked Chicken, Salad, Rice
Hamburger Helper, Salad
Pork Chops, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Apple Sauce
Spaghetti, Green Beans, Garlic Bread

Menu 3
Stew, Rolls
Chicken Enchiladas, Spanish Rice, Refried Beans
Mushroom Chicken, Corn, Rice, Salad
Hamburgers, Potato Salad, Chips
Stir Fry
Lasagna, Salad, Garlic Bread

Menu 4
Tortilla Soup, Tortillas
Cheese Enchiladas, Refried Beans, Spanish Rice
Herb Roasted Chicken, Green Beans, Salad, Rice
Tamale Pie
Crockpot Pork, Corn, Mashed Potatoes
Fettuccini Alfredo, Garlic Bread, Veggie

During the summer months, I would replace the soups and stews with salads. You might have noticed that there are only 6 dinners listed. That left night 7 for leftovers or dining out/take out. Also, I am not posting my shopping list because your list would be different based on the recipes you use.

Take some time to write down the recipes your family already enjoys. Then create a master shopping list and take the time to put it in order by the layout of your grocery store! The extra effort now will save you a lot of time later.

Event #8

Meal Planning makes life so much easier. That's why this Olympic event is so important.

Take out your calendar and plan a week's worth of meals. You can get help at www.savingdinner.com.

Activity Challenge #4

Pick your level of fitness.

For beginners, 30 chair crunches.

Advanced, jog or walk for 10 minutes.

Remember, you can break up your goal into smaller sets.

Closet Challenge #4

Time to declutter your shoes!

I am very proud to announce that I decluttered 8 pairs of shoes. Yay me! =0)

Activity Challenge #3

Time for jumping jacks! Do 30 of them. Break them up into 3-5 sets and do throughout the day.

If your fitness level is still low, try shoulder raises.

Closet Challenge #3

Knitwear, tees and sweater time! Be sure to assess the fit in front of a full length mirror.

Closet Challenge #2

We are to go through our pants and jeans.

Ms. Smarty Pants gives great advice on how to assess the fit of pants. You might want to check out her advice in the flylady group on bigtent.com.

Closet Challenge #1

We are tackling our closet, but just a little at a time.

Our first challenge is to declutter our hanging shirts and tops. If you don't wear it, don't like it, it doesn't fit well, it has stains on it...or any other reason...please let it go!

I had a hard time with this, so I set a minimum percentage of total tops that I wanted to declutter. I selected 10%. I actually decluttered 14%...a huge milestone for me. I know that I can declutter more at a later time. For me, this was a baby step in the right direction.

Activity Challenge #2

This time we are doing 20 situps. As with challenge #1, if you need to break this up into smaller sets, that's okay.

Activity Challenge #1

This is designed to get us moving.

If you are a fitness beginner, simply walk for 10 minutes. This can be broken up into smaller sets, as long as it totals 10 minutes.

If you are more advanced, do 20 pushups. They can be done traditionally, on your knees, or even on the wall. You decide!

Event #7

Making our home office a place that we can function...that's our mission. I hope you choose to accept it!

You may not have a dedicated office, but you have somewhere that you do your office related things. Spend time getting that area in order. You can do it!

Event #6

Part of FLYing is learning to love yourself and to do things that make you happy. Event #6 is designed to take some time for YOU.

Pick a special place that you can declutter. We need a sanctuary. Find a special chair, desk, whatever, and make it your spot.

Olympic Closet Challenge

BEFORE

It may not seem like great progress. But I was able to declutter 15 blouses today. In my world, that is HUGE!

AFTER

Tough Cleaning Solutions

I have a huge entryway. The flooring is stamped concrete. The vacuum doesn't work, sweeping does a little better. And mop? Forget about it!

Top picture is a closeup of the floor. Picture two is looking towards the living room. Picture three is looking towards the pool room.

Suggestions?

Event #5

A major part of FLYing includes what flylady calls our Weekly Home Blessing...or WHB for short. This is 7 things we need to do each week to bless our families and homes.
This should only take us about an hour, if we remain focused and avoid getting caught up in our own perfection.

For those of you not familiar with the WHB, go to the official flylady website: http://flylady.net/pages/flyfaq.asp#whbh

Event #4

Part of FLYing is learning to take the time and pamper yourself. So, we were sent to have a bubblebath in the middle of the day. I can't even imagine such decadence! I didn't do it today, but you better believe I am taking that event and running with it!

Event #3

I was so excited to see this event. Pick one drawer in your kitchen, I selected my junk drawer, and declutter whatever items you don't need. I spent a few minutes taking everything out of the drawer (including 26 cents that I gave to ds12), separated the items into: throw away, put away, return to the drawer, and what-in-the-world-IS-this.

In addition to the last group, I found a strange variety of things, including: 4 green candy canes, the back to a remote control, and a pencil that had been gnawed on. Needles to say, I threw the pencil away, stashed the candy canes for my next need-sugar-now day, and put the back of the remote into the drawer until I can figure out where it belongs.

Now, THAT'S progress!

Event #2

Into our bedrooms we went! We are tackling the flat surfaces in our bedrooms, especially the tops of dressers. I was good on that one, but I spent a few minutes decluttering the nightstands and the top of my entertainment center. It looks really nice in there now.

Olympic Event #1

Our first event took us out to our cars. We were to declutter the insides of our vehicles. I haven't finished this event yet. I took the bags out there: one for trash and one for bringing things into the house.

Placing our Olympic Torch

Our first assignment was to create an olympic torch. This was to be something that motivated us. Some used vases with flowers. Others used a pretty candle. We were to set it where it would remind us of our decluttering goal.
